The Honest Version of “Who Reviews This Site”

Buildcalchub is a one-person site. I am the editor, the publisher and the person accountable when a number is wrong. I am not a construction engineer, and nothing on this site is a stamped or code-approved calculation.

What the site does have is a written review procedure, split by subject area so that asphalt math, concrete math and landscape math are each checked against the documents that actually govern them:

“Desk” names a review scope and its checklist, not a staff member. Earlier versions of this site attached personal names and years of experience to those scopes; those claims could not be verified by a reader, so they were removed in October 2026 and the checklists they stood for are now written out in full on each desk page — where you can test them against the cited standard instead of against a biography.

The Editorial Pipeline Every Page Follows

  1. Brief — scope the question the page answers, the inputs a user actually has, and the output they need before ordering material.
  2. Methodology and field assumptions — choose the formula and the density, waste, lift and cure assumptions from the governing published standard, and record which standard each default comes from.
  3. First draft — build the calculator inputs, copy, tables, worked examples and FAQs so the printed math matches the executed math.
  4. Desk review — re-run every worked example from the page’s own formula, check each default against the cited source, and remove any claim the source does not support.
  5. Editorial polish — tighten prose for readability, then validate JSON-LD, internal links, headings and accessibility.
  6. Publish and monitor — ship the page, watch which queries it earns impressions on, and re-open the review loop when a referenced standard updates or the intent shifts.

What I Do Not Do

  • I do not invent calculation formulas. Every formula is traceable to a published standard cited on the page.
  • I do not present first-person jobsite anecdotes as observed experience. Field notes on this site are labelled as reconstructions of typical project arithmetic from the cited references, not as memories.

Editorial Standards Enforced On Every Page

  • A named accountable editor and a documented review scope on every calculator and guide — no anonymous ‘our team’ bylines, and no reviewer biographies the site cannot verify.
  • Explicit formula disclosure: the math is printed on the page, not hidden inside JavaScript.
  • Sourced data: every density, cost band and standard reference cites a public document (ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, FHWA, NAPA, ICPI, NCMA, ICC and others) with a working URL.
  • 2026 pricing is calibrated against regional supplier and contractor bands, with the source class and quarter of capture stated.
  • Date discipline: every page shows datePublished and dateModified, and pages are re-validated when a referenced standard updates.
  • JSON-LD schema: pages ship with WebApplication or Article plus FAQPage and BreadcrumbList, checked against Google’s Rich Results Test.
  • Corrections policy: if a number on this site is wrong, mail contact@buildcalchub.net — corrections are logged with a date and republished with a fresh review stamp.
